Short Films

What follows are a collection of short films I’ve made dating all the way back to 2009 when I was 9 years of age. I’ve been writing, producing, and directing my own short films ever since my father gave me an old iPhone 3GS, which I used to film, edit, and render “The Salesman” with my younger sister. My YouTube channel “Sewer Chicken Films” has been the repository for most of these efforts. Below is a sampling of my work, with captions detailing the work I have done on each piece.

Early Work

The Salesman: I made this film with an iPhone3GS, iMovie, and my Dad uploaded it to YouTube. I was 9.
Last Year’s Pizza: This is a short I wrote, directed, and edited together when I was 13 and still in middle school.
Resplendent: This is a short film I made while still in middle school. I wrote, directed, shot, and edited this film together. It is the longest project I had ever undertaken, but was really an experiment to see if I could make a longer film. It is kind of disorganized in some of it, but it was indeed a learning experience, and not my best work, but I place it here to show how hungry I was to just make films and have a good time doing it.
Shortcut: As a freshman in high school, I made this short film with my Nolan. It was a project fraught with peril, as my GoPro was damaged and I had to piece together the film using the footage I had salvaged. Also, the camera I used malfunctioned. The line you see on the footage is from that malfunctioning camera. It was a lesson in creating a piece from salvaged pieces that were not the whole picture. I shot, recorded sound, edited, and rendered the film using Nero.
Guitar for Hire: This is another film I created with the subject being myself and my friend Nolan. I wrote, shot, edited and rendered this myself.
How to Time Travel (Safely): This was a short I made with James, another friend who I would end up collaborating for many films. This was made while I was in high school, and it is my first experiment with using green screen and sound effects. I wrote, produced, created props, shot, edited and rendered this film.

Mid-America Technology Center

The Best Stapler in the World: This is the first film I shot for my Media Specialist class at Mid-America Technology Center in Wayne, OK. I did all the camera work on this short, and did some of the editing.
The Body: I shot this film at a location shoot for my Media Specialist class. I did all of the camera work, wrote the script, and also directed and edited the film together. It is my first real effort using professional cameras and equipment as well as use of a dedicated location.
The Fridge: This was made as a project for my Media Specialist class. I was supposed to create an ad for a Mid-America showcase night where parents come to the center to view our projects, etc. It used it as an opportunity to shoot in black and white and to experiment with lighting techniques.
House: I made this short with my sister Leigha, the same girl from the “Salesman” video above. It was made for a Film Riot contest. I wrote, directed, shot, added public domain music, and rendered it myself using iMovie.

Oklahoma City Community College

Dream House: I spent one semester my senior year of high school trying out Oklahoma City Community College’s film program. While taking an intro to film course, I made this short avant garde film for that class. As I was left as odd-man-out for group work in the class, I requested to make my project alone. My instructor gave me permission, and my film was made entirely by myself. It is the first time I didn’t collaborate with anyone for a film project, and the instructor gave it high marks.

Recent Projects

Microwave: I made this short while living in my first apartment. I wrote, directed, shot, edited, and rendered the film myself.
Skunk Man: This short film was my first effort using Final Draft to write a screenplay. I wrote a short screenplay, then directed my friends James and Joseph and others to create a parody of the superhero genre. It is shot around Norman, OK. For this film I wrote, directed, produced, rigged lighting, edited, created props, and designed costumes. It was my biggest effort for a short film to date.

Vine-Style Micro Shorts

Wal-Mart Trip: A short I made with my friend James. It was an experiment in editing style.
Beer Me: This is a micro-short I made with my friend Austin.
The Ball: This is my first foray into stop-motion animation. I built the set and background and used clay for a medium. I shot hundreds of individual shots, much like Ray Harryhausen, then rendered it together.
Scary Movies Be Like…: I made this with my friend James. It was also an experiment with lighting.
